Hip Hop
Trips to 7-Eleven were a good (though not safe in the slightest) way to kill time during my COVID-infested sophomore year of college. Containing some of the best snacks ever invented, as well as weird flavored hot dogs, the convenience store was a getaway from an increasingly boring apartment and creepily empty campus. One night, on a romantic getaway with my girlfriend, we stumbled upon a rack of lanyards by the door. Each containing a name, we swirled the rack looking for ours. What we found was much better. Themed lanyards for interests and personalities that our sophomoric minds could not help but find ironic. My girlfriend picked out “Diva” and I picked “Hip Hop.” My initial thought was to attach it to The Black Clip (which at the time still hung out of my pocket) and profess to the world my love of Hip Hop music. However, the proportions weren’t quite right and, after a month, Hip Hop was booted from the keychain altogether. Kicking around in my closet for a year, Hip Hop matured and looked for a new role in which it could fit with the other keychain accessories. At the start of junior year, I called up Hip Hop to my keychain, this time as a handle. Finally, Hip Hop had a solid place on the keychain, and it remains in that spot to this day. It also doubles as a connection from the top to the bottom of my keys and creates a loop that allows me to securely grab onto any part of my keys. Previously, Hip Hop served a necessary role as a clip to the past attachment Pepper Spray.
